California's Channel Islands
East End of Anacapa Island 18 miles off the California coast
One of our favorite cruising and fishing areas is the California Channel Island area. This area is much more "tropical" than our home area of Avila Beach to the North. Water in the Channel Islands is clear and populated with a wide assortment of fish; in addition, there is an abundance of other wildlife as well.
Those unfamiliar with the West Coast don't realize that the water drops off rapidly to great depths and it is common to fish in 40 to 150 feet of water just yards from beaches or cliffs.
